Key specs explained for this basket
Material: Aluminum
This basket is built from aluminum, a metal that resists rust and corrosion better than steel. You will not need to worry about rust stains transferring to your gear during travel. The material keeps the unit lightweight while maintaining structural integrity. This makes it a practical choice for frequent use in various weather conditions without the heavy maintenance required by cheaper metal alternatives.
Weight Capacity: 150 lbs
The basket supports a maximum load of 150 pounds. You can safely transport heavy items like camping gear, sports equipment, or luggage within this limit. Exceeding this weight risks damaging the basket or compromising vehicle safety. When comparing carriers, this capacity suits medium-sized loads, allowing you to carry substantial items without overloading your vehicle's roof system or affecting handling significantly.
Basket Dimensions: 47.2 x 39.4 x 7.87 inches
These dimensions define the internal storage space available for your cargo. The length and width provide a broad surface area for flat items, while the height offers vertical storage depth. You can use these measurements to verify that your specific gear, such as kayaks or large boxes, fits securely. Comparing these exact numbers helps ensure the basket matches your vehicle's crossbar spacing and your storage needs.
Weight: 22 pounds
The basket itself weighs 22 pounds, which is relatively light for a cargo carrier of this size. A lighter unit adds less weight to your vehicle, potentially improving fuel efficiency and handling compared to heavier steel baskets. This low weight also makes installation and removal easier for you. When shopping, consider how this tare weight impacts your total payload capacity on your specific vehicle model.
